30 Hour Famine 2012 (Hunger No More)

    4th and 5th of August 2012.
This weekend is what I would consider as a meaningful one.

30 Hour famine is basically going through starvation for 30 hours.
By experiencing starvation for more than a day,
we can understand how the poor people all around the world live.
To go to bed with a growling stomach, to work under the scorching sun without lunch or breakfast.
30 Hours is nothing compared to what they go through every single day of their lives.

Malnourished people does look this skinny.
They go through everyday without sufficient food/nutrients.

This is a pretty happy family among the poor and malnourished ones.

So please help, our lives are interdependent and their lives are in your hands.
This link will lead you to the official website of 30hourfamine.
Providing you donation forms and informations.

By experiencing the camp, we learn to understand their lives and suffering better (a small fraction of it).
With this, hopefully, people would be able to find empathy in them.
And hopefully, privileged people like us would help by donating/sponsoring a child even though it meant eating less luxurious food.

One single most important lesson that I learnt in this camp is the fact that I have been extremely lucky and selfish in life to not appreciate what I have.
To see that 29 thousand people in Malaysia has participated in this camp has made me realize that humanity still has got hope.
Among that 29 thousand people, young children were among the crowd.
It touched my heart how small children like them would give up food for a good cause which we adults couldn't even care less.

This is HELP-DIY camp. 600 people
Now times this 50 times and you'll get the picture of the crowd in the stadium

It would probably look like this in 1/4 of the stadium.

Every activity/game played in the camp has a meaning behind it,
whether to teach us the poor's way of life, or a lesson,
All activity requires a large amount of self-reflection and learning.
I am proud to announce that these activities has definitely pushed me to be a better person than I ever will.
More accurately, a more philanthropic person.

Every year, there's a Famine countdown (concert) where both Malaysian and international stars are invited to support the cause by performing/hosting/interacting with the audience.

Yeap, Even Daniel Ling was there to support the cause.

This year, the one and most important star of the countdown was of course Wang Lee Hom himself.
He is one of the famine 30 ambassadors that went to many other countries to help out the poor.

He created a gap in his busy schedule to sing us a song. :') touched.
He had to fly from Hong Kong to Malaysia and back. O:

Okay, I'm not quite a big fan of him but hey ! I get to see him at least. Haha
Basically, the participants are all very chinese educated people.
And since, I'm english educated. I don't quite seem to FIT in.

Whenever the shout out the slogan in Chinese, I would blur out.
I would basically blurt out "ching chang chong chang"

The slogan in Chinese & English

Most of the songs sung was Chinese.
My friend said he didn't know the songs but he understood it at least.
I told him, "At least he understood, I could only tell people that I liked the melody of the song."
    SAD RIGHT?
Oh well, the life of a living "banana"
Oh wait, I do know one of the songs.
    It's called "tong hua"
    :DDDD

The "Break Fast" ceremony where we get food and drinks.

Who would have known that after starving for 30 hours, food would feel so good?
Food became a joy at that moment in time because we finally understood the pain of going through life without food.
Food is life, food is fuel and we should all be grateful for it.
Don't waste it because there's always people out there who wants it and couldn't have it.
Start helping as well ! By sponsoring a child.
When you sponsor a child, you save that child from malnutrition, sickness and death.

Okay, so this is the end of my blabbers.
and visit the 30 hour famine website. (:

    n. the awareness of the smallness of your perspective, by which you couldn’t possibly draw any meaningful conclusions at all, about the world or the past or the complexities of culture, because although your life is an epic and unrepeatable anecdote, it still only has a sample size of one, and may end up being the control for a much wilder experiment happening in the next room.

    The person behind this blog

She is a 21 year-old awkwardly enthusiastic individual who loves the idea of photography and is constantly looking for opportunities to travel around the world.

She loves lounging the around the house watching TV shows and movies in her pajamas while sipping tea (English breakfast is the way to go).

If you wish to make her happy, buy her candy, but do not lure her into dark alleys with those. Also, she finds it stupid to refer to herself as a third person.
